Privacy Policy — Tab Drift
Last updated: October 22, 2026
What this extension does
Tab Drift shows you which of your open tabs you have actually used
recently, fading the ones you haven't touched, and lets you close stale
tabs from a side panel. It can also show a small timer on a page, telling
you how long you have been on it.
What data we collect
None. Tab Drift does not collect, transmit, sell, or
share any of your data with us or with any third party. There are no
analytics, no tracking scripts, no accounts, and no external servers
involved in how this extension operates.
What the extension handles on your device
To do its job, Tab Drift handles the following information locally,
inside your own browser:
- Tab details — the title, address (URL), and icon of
each open tab, so they can be listed in the side panel.
- Last-used times — a timestamp for each tab, updated
when you switch to it, load a page in it, or scroll, click, type, or move
the mouse on it. Tab Drift records only that an interaction happened and
when. It does not record what you type, what you click on, or what you do
on the page.
- Time on page — a running timer, kept in memory while
a page is open and visible, to show how long you have been on it. It is
not saved and is gone when you close or reload the page.
- Your settings — whether the time-on-page timer is
turned on or off, and where on the screen you last dragged it to.
Tab Drift does not read, copy, or store the content of the pages you
visit.
Where your data is stored
The tab details, last-used times, and your settings are stored using
Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API, on your own
device, inside your own browser profile. This data:
- Never leaves your device
- Is never sent to us, to the developer, or to any server
- Is only accessible to this extension, within your own browser
A tab's entry is deleted when you close that tab. If you uninstall the
extension, everything it stored is removed by Chrome along with it.
Permissions this extension requests, and why
- tabs — to read the title, address, and icon of your
open tabs so they can be listed in the side panel, to switch to a tab
when you click it, and to close tabs when you ask.
- storage — to save last-used times, your on/off
setting, and the timer's position locally on your device.
- sidePanel — to show the tab list in Chrome's side
panel.
- Access to all websites (content script) — so the
extension can notice scrolling, clicking, and typing on any page (to know
a tab is in use) and show the time-on-page timer. The extension does not
read, log, store, or transmit the content of the pages you visit.
Third parties
This extension does not integrate with, or send data to, any
third-party service, analytics platform, or advertising network. It does
not use remote code.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised,
and material changes will be reflected in the extension's Chrome Web Store
listing.
